“There are more excellent countertenors before the public today than ever before but one of them stands out above all others
as Caruso among tenors a century ago: Andreas Scholl” – Fanfare
Scholl sang his signature operatic role Giulio Cesare in his recent debut at Oper Frankfurt as well as at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and at the 2012 Salzburger Festspiele (opposite Cecilia Bartoli). He has also appeared as Bertarido (Rodelinda) in which he made his debut at both the Glyndebourne Festival Opera and The Metropolitan Opera (opposite Renée Fleming). Concert performances have included appearances with Berliner Philharmoniker, New York Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, and with all of the world’s leading baroque orchestras; and at the 2005 Last Night of the Proms – the first countertenor ever to have been invited.
The Ensemble 1700 was founded in 2002 by Dorothee Oberlinger in Cologne and is dedicated to the European chamber music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Based on musicological sound and performance-practical basis, coupled with the highest technical skill, varied and lively concert programs emerged, which were enthusiastically received by press and audience alike.
